CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

You may select a class level which is appropriate for you using the following Class Descriptions as a guideline. If you are uncertain about which class you should go to, please do not hesitate to call us or speak to one of the teachers at Manoa Yoga Center.

Being in the proper class level will greatly help your learning and experience of yoga. Please note that attendance at the Intermediate classes should be with prior approval of Ray or Shelley.

Basic 1:
For those completely new to yoga, this is a more gentle, slower-paced beginning class. Emphasizes a safe and appropriate approach to the practice of yoga.
Basic 2:
For students with some experience in yoga. This class has a faster moving pace and is more vigorous than Basic 1. Emphasis is on providing a solid foundation in the basic standing poses.
Intermediate 1:
Students should have an understanding of the basic standing poses. More complex poses are learned. Inverted postures are gently introduced. Attendance at the Intermediate classes should be with prior approval of Ray or Shelley.
Intermediate 2:
Continued refinement of basic poses and more advanced poses are taught. Students should have a solid foundation in Iyengar yoga. Regular practice of inversions. Attendance at the Intermediate classes should be with prior approval of Ray or Shelley.
Seniors:
These classes are designed specifically for those over 60 years old. Bring your ID to receive the discounted rate.
Yoga for Kids A fun, fast moving and vigorous challenge for children ages 5-11. Includes games and story-telling.
Gentle
Suitable for people of all ages and levels.

CLASS FEES

 

Students who purchase classes by the month are issued class cards which are valid for 30 days from the date of issue. For continuity in their yoga practice, students are encouraged to select classes which they can attend on a consistent basis, although students can attend any class on the Class Schedule which suits their level of experience.

Seniors Monthly Discount: Seniors, 60 years and over, receive $5 off monthly rate.

Students Monthly Discount: Students receive $5 discount on all monthly rates with presentation of student I.D.

Military Discount: Military personnel receive $5 discount on all monthly rates.

 

Cards are not transferable and are valid for 30 days from date of purchase. Sorry, no refunds.

Private Sessions: Shelley and Ray are also available for private sessions. Private sessions may be a way to deepen your practice through personalised attention or to deal with medical problems or injuries. Email Ray or Shelley for further information.

When you come to class…

 

  • it is best to not eat a heavy meal within two hours of class. If you are hungry, a light snack one hour before class is ok.
  • no pre-registration is necessary; plan to arrive a few minutes before class to sign-in with your teacher.
  • wear comfortable clothing, such as shorts and a top, t-shirt or tank top. Your teacher needs to be able to see your knees, so shorts are preferable to long pants.
  • please see that your feet are clean before entering the yoga studio.
  • please do not wear heavy perfumes, lotions or essential oils.
  • please turn off cellular phones and pagers.
  • if you are injured or have a health condition, please let your teacher know before class begins.
  • if you are pregnant, please inform your teacher before the start of class.
  • You may use your own mat and props, however, yoga props and mats are provied by the center at no charge. At the end of class, please fold your mat and blankets mindfully and put your props away neatly.
  • please feel free to speak with your teacher about any concerns you may have.
